The electronic navigator around the university
In September, 2011 the information and communications Control staff executed "Electronic Navigator at the University" project. In the hall of the main educational block No. 1 (the classroom hall) behind turnstile entrance a touch functional screen system is available during the whole university working day.
The system of navigation will help to understand complex structure of the university and to find the necessary departments, and most important, it will show on the diagram and will explain step by step instructions how to get to the required office. This information will be useful not only to guests and first-year students, but also senior students, employees and teachers.
The interface of the navigator developed by experts of department of information and communications is simple and clear even to a person not familiar with computers.
The principal screen of system integrates the administration, institutes and structural subdivisions. From here, the transfer to higher floor levels, it is possible to reach necessary subdivisions where employees and rooms in which they occupy are shown.
If the user wants to know not only number of the required room or audience, but also to learn how to reach the place, then, having pressed the number button, he will receive details step by step instruction. All along the way to the room it is broken into stages, and it is simpler to remember each stage across one floor to the specific hall. Each stage is displayed by an arrow line on the diagram on the floor and is supplied with text hints.
Information on subdivisions and employees are regularly amended and updated. Currently the system contains data on administration, dean's offices and deans of institutes and also heads of subdivisions. It is shortly planned to expand system function and to add electronic schedule navigator for students.
