The Earth is our Habitat
For 10 years the preparatory faculty for foreign students at Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov has been organizing the International festival of foreign students "The Earth is our Habitat".
The festival became a tradition of Faculty due to which the educational process becomes amazingly interesting and fills with positive competitive spirit.
Traditionally the event brings together the students from Asia, Africa and Latin America studying at higher educational institutions in Belgorod and Kursk regions.
Usually the festival program includes an Olympiad in Russian as a foreign language, mathematics and physics competitions, contest of speech making skills. In addition, there is a conference, creative projects contest and national cultures exhibitions followed by a concert.
The festival starts with Russian linguistic and cultural studies test where the students answer the questions checking knowledge of Russian traditions, history and places of interest, proverbs and sayings and writing an essay on the basis of the video. Then we have speech skills contest which is attended by Russian students.
Work continues with conference which is divided into sections.
The closing ceremony starts with the exhibition of national cultures. Students from different parts of the world represent unique exhibits reflecting the identity of their peoples – national costumes and musical instruments, jewelry and beads, utensils and hookahs, flags and banknotes as well as numerous household items.
Familiarity with the customs and traditions of different peoples of the world gradually is crowned with a festive gala-concert.
The students make a real a show on the stage. As the pieces of mosaic in a kaleidoscope spectacular performance change one on other – Latin and rhythmic capoeira, Arabic dabka and fascinating Kizomba. Rhythmic music and vivid performance will not leave anyone indifferent – everyone appreciates and actively supports the performers by dance moves.
The festival traditionally ends with the award giving ceremony to the festival partcipants.
