The day of the liberation of the Belgorod region

August 5 is a special date for our region and for the entire country, it was on this day 77 years ago, during fierce battles, Belgorod was liberated from the German fascist invaders. By order of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin dated August 5, 1943, on this day in Moscow, an artillery salute was given to the troops that liberated Oryol and Belgorod. This fireworks was the first during the Great Patriotic War, so the name "City of the first fireworks" was assigned to Orel and Belgorod, and on April 27, 2007 Belgorod was the first in Russia to receive the honorary title "City of Military Glory"

 

By tradition, today began with the laying of flowers at the Eternal Fire memorial complex on Cathedral Square. Hundreds of Belgorod residents, representatives of all enterprises and organizations of the region came to pay tribute to the memory and respect of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

University staff, headed by the rector Sergei Glagolev, also honored the memory of all those who fought and died during the liberation of the Belgorod region. The ceremony was attended by activists of construction groups, cadets of the Military Training Center named after Hero of the Soviet Union, General of the Army N.F. Vatutin at BSTU thnamed after V.G. Shukhov and the Council of Veterans of the University.
