Belgorod airport was named after Vladimir G. Shukhov

The ceremony took place on the birthday of the famous engineer-architect. The participation in the festive event was taken by the Governor of the Belgorod Region Yevgeny Savchenko, the rector of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov Sergey Glagolev, president of the university Anatoly Gridchin, staff and students of the reference university.
                                                                 

                                                                   
“I am sure that today will go down in the history of our region. Today we assign the name of Vladimir G. Shukhov to the Belgorod airport. He was a genius and innovator who linked whole ages with his unique scientific discoveries. In anticipation of the upcoming school year, I want to appeal to students, wish them new successes and discoveries. Be inspired by the example of our famous countryman and glorify our land as Vladimir G.Shukhov did and continues to do it, ”noted the region’s governor Yevgeny Savchenko.

On behalf of the students, a student of the BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov Julia Chueva: “We all know that Vladimir Shukhov was not only a genius of engineering, but also a patriot of his homeland. He devoted himself entirely to inventive activity and the development of our great country. Vladimir G. Shukhov  is a perfect example of how a person can realize himself in science. The modern generation should take an example from it, take the initiative and not be afraid to bring their ideas to life. ”

                                                                   

                                                                    

In honor of the solemn event, a large-scale panel with the image of Vladimir Shukhov was installed at the main entrance to the air harbor of the city. His portrait is located on the background of the mesh tower - the most famous invention of the scientist.

Recall that the decision to assign the Belgorod airport named after V.G. Shukhov was adopted on May 31, 2019. The corresponding decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

                                                              

50 thousand Russians voted for the candidacy of a well-known engineer in the framework of the All-Russian campaign "Great Names of Russia", which took place from October 11 to December 23, 2018. In total, more than 6 million people took part in the popular vote.
