No one has lost in a Chess competition

On February 16 the Chess Club of the department of physical education and sport organized a team tournament for «Friendship Cup» between postgraduates and overseas students, dedicated to the Defendants’ Day.

Opening the competition, professor A.V. Odarchenko, scientific advisor of Young Researches Council, deputy-vice-chancellor on research marked that the chess match is going to be not only an intellectual competition, but a lesson of friendship for the students representing different countries of the world, as apart from scientific knowledge, today’s youth need to be tolerant.

According to him “A young scientist of prejudice won’t be able to achieve much. That is why the Young Researchers Council takes effort to make young specialists come into independent life as highly educated, thoroughly developed people. Chess tournaments have to help them in it.

Over 50 students and post-graduates, including representatives of Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Albania, Ethiopia, Afghanistan etc. took part in the tournament.

The atmosphere in the chess-club was filled with high sport enthusiasm and mutual respect. We can’t but mention excellent organization of the event. А.G Korovyanski, the chess instructor created all conditions for students to make them able to fully concentrate on the game. Alexandre Grigorievich was attentively following the games, encouraging those who faced Zeitnot.

Young Researchers Council prepared honorary plaques and special prizes for the winners.

And the time came to sum up the results. The score was 9:11 in favor of BSTU PhD students. 15 winners got the Letters of Honor and valuable gifts.

In conclusion Anatoly Vasilievich Odarchenko warmly thanked everybody for active participation in the tournament, highlighting the usefulness of the competition.
