Information: in the third decade of February in the central direction, in the strip between the Dnieper and North. Donets turned up the battle, which resulted in the enemy won and re-captured Kharkov and Belgorod. The front line in this direction has stabilized, taking the form of a giant protrusion, called the Kursk Bulge. The Hitlerite command, wishing to once again master the strategic initiative, developed Operation Citadel for the breakthrough and encirclement of the Red Army in the Kursk area. The configuration of the Kursk salient created the potential for encirclement and subsequent destruction of the Central and Voronezh fronts. In the event that this task was successfully accomplished, the military-political situation radically changed in favor of Germany. To attack the Kursk, Hitler concentrated 50 divisions, of which 16 were tank and motorized. Here for the first time it was supposed to use the Tigr and Panther tanks and the new Focke-Wulf-190 fighters on a large scale.

On April 15, 1943, Hitler signed the operative order of the Wehrmacht's Stake No. 6, which approved an offensive plan in the Orel-Kursk-Belgorod-Kharkov region. The Battle of Kursk lasted 50 days and nights - from July 5 to August 23, 1943. It included three major strategic operations of the Soviet troops: the Kursk defensive (July 5–23), the Oryol (Operation Kutuzov) (July 12 – August 18) and Belgorod-Kharkiv (August 3–23) offensive operations. In terms of its scope, attracted forces and means, tensions, results and military-political consequences, the Battle of Kursk is one of the biggest battles of the Second World War.

The radical change during the Great Patriotic War, begun at Stalingrad, was completed during the Battle of Kursk and the Battle of the Dnieper. The Germans hoped to crush the entire southern wing of the Soviet troops, thereby changing the military-political situation on the Soviet-German front in their favor.
