Meetings of student activists and journalists with the university's rector, Professor Sergey Glagolev, have become traditional. The leitmotif of the next press conference was the Day of Russian Students. And this is natural, since the rector actively participates in the life of a student’s asset, supports the most courageous undertakings, and also shows by his personal example the importance of practicing various types of creativity.
“On this wonderful day, I would like to congratulate all the students on the holiday and thank them for their interest not only in their studies, but also in the public life of the university. Here there are the best of the best - leaders and activists of student associations. Your contribution to the development of the university is very high, and the understanding of this fact is of particular importance at the moment, ”said Sergey Nikolaevich.

The main issues of the press conference were the results of 2018 and plans for 2019. On all aspects of the BSTU. Named after V.G. Shukhov retained or improved their positions. This is confirmed by the increase in rating expert assessments and the victories of university projects in various competitions, as well as the successful implementation of high-tech projects within the framework of federal targeted programs, awards and grants of the President of the Russian Federation.
Special attention was paid to research activities: in 2018, the university sent over 650 applications to various departments, funds and competitions with the participation of leading and young scientists, graduate students and students. Currently, more than 150 projects have received funding, more than three hundred projects, awards, prizes and diplomas. Leading and young scientists in 2018 carried out research and development (R & D) by more than 350 million rubles, which is approximately 30% more than in 2017.
Speaking about the outcome of the past year, it is impossible not to mention the public life of the university. The year 2018 was declared the Year of the Volunteer in Russia, therefore the university officially launched the project “School of Volunteers of the BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov ”, implemented at the university with the support of the youth policy of the Belgorod region and the regional center for youth initiatives. Technolog regularly conducts various volunteer actions ranging from recycling campaigns to computer literacy training for the elderly.
It should be noted that in November 2018, according to the results of the competition of the Ministry of Education of Russia, the university received the status of a federal innovation platform with the project “Innovative model of continuous training“ School - University-Enterprise ”in the areas of digital economy”. The objectives of the innovative educational project are to form a flexible system of interaction between the university, general education institutions, regional authorities and IT-cluster enterprises in the field of training in the areas of the digital economy, providing the current and future needs of the regional economy for qualified personnel.
Among the main tasks for 2019, Sergey Nikolayevich highlighted the strengthening of the Russian and international scientific and educational university rankings, as well as the further development of high technologies in the field of construction, construction industry and related industries; the formation of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov as a center of excellence and a sectoral innovation and technology platform in the field of digitalization of the regional economy and industry.
