Student of BSTU got into the top 50 athletes of the world in taekwondo
A student of the flagship university – BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov - Gleb Zakharov became the "gold medalist" of the Russian championship in taekwondo and got into the top 50 athletes of the world.
The competition, which took place in Ryazan, was attended by about 500 athletes from 60 regions of the country. Among them are the champions of the regions, territories and federal districts, as well as members of the Russian national team. Gleb represented the university and the region in the weight category of 87 kg.
The athlete held 4 fights and scored four victories, which allowed him to take 1st place in his category. Participation and result in these competitions allowed Gleb to get into the TOP-50 world athletes in his weight category.
“For taekwondo in our area this is the first such achievement. Prize-winning places in the Russian Championship are places that guarantee participation in the selection system for the national team of the country to participate in the European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games. The Russian national team in taekwondo is the strongest team in Europe and one of the strongest teams in the world, ”commented Gleb Zakharov coach Viktor Ukolov.
The plans of the athlete - participation in the Cup of the President of the Taekwondo Federation, which will be held in Turkey from February 6 to 12, 2019, as well as participation in the Slovenia Open competitions in February 2018.
For reference: Gleb Zakharov is a student of the group STM-41 (IE & M). He has been practicing taekwondo for 16 years. Trained athlete under the direction of Viktor Vladimirovich Ukolova.
Gleb's achievements list includes:
- 1st place in the All-Russian Student Universiade 2016 in the national team of BSTU. V.G. Shukhov;
- 3rd place and ticket to the European Championship in the Cup of the President of the Taekwondo Federation in 2018;
- participation in the European Championship;
- 2nd place in the competition Serbia Open-2018;
- 1st place in the competitions Israel Open-2018.
