Memorandum on cooperation between universities and the Association of Arab Universities was signed at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov
Representatives of the Association of Arab Universities visited the flagship university on an official visit. The delegation includes Secretary - General of the Association Professor Sultan T. Abu-Arabi and Director of Public Relations Waheeb Karajah.
Guests from the Middle East participated in an open meeting of the Rectors Council of the Belgorod Region «Interaction with Universities of the Middle East Region». Colleagues from higher educational institutions of the Chernozem region were also invited to the council.
The official part - an open meeting of the Rectors' Council - was opened by the president of BSTU named after. V.G. Shukhov, Professor Anatoly Gridchin. He spoke about the first forum of the Rectors Federation of Russian and Arab Universities with the participation of Professor Sultan T. Abu-Arabi, Rector of BSTU Sergey Glagolev and the rector of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, president of the Russian Union of Rectors, Academician Viktor Sadovnichy. The meeting was held on February 19 in Beirut (Lebanon).
Rector Sergey Glagolev welcomed the guests and commented: «The visit to our university of Mr. Sultan T. Abu-Arabi is very important. The main goal is to discuss cooperation between the universities of the Chernozem region and the universities of the Middle East region. BSTU actively cooperates with universities all over the world. At the moment we have 115 inter-university agreements. And we invite the Association of Arab Universities to cooperate and are ready to provide both scientific and laboratory, cultural and sports facilities for joint events».
For his part, Sultan T. Abu-Arabi thanked Sergey Glagolev and the university administration for the warm welcome: «My visit to Belgorod can rightly be called successful. I was fortunate enough to attend the celebrations dedicated to the Victory Day. And I heartily congratulate all of you on this holiday. Now our Association includes 350 universities in 22 Arab countries. In February this year we already met with the rector of BSTU. And today's meeting only expands the cooperation between universities. I would like to offer Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov to head the association of higher educational institutions of the Chernozem region».
Representatives of higher educational institutions: rector of Belgorod State Agrarian University, professor Alexander Turyansky, rector of Belgorod State Institute of Arts and Culture, professor Sergey Kurgansky, first vice-rector of Belgorod University of Cooperation, Economics and Law, Professor Elena Isayenko, first vice-rector of Kursk State Agricultural Academy,Tatiana Solovyov, vice-rector for international cooperation of Belgorod National Research University Vladislav Kuchmisty, vice-rector for science activity of Voronezh State Agricultural University named after Emperor Peter the Great Vyacheslav Gulevsky, head of the department for international relations of Kursk State Medical University Ekaterina Sedykh made proposals for cooperation within the framework of the meeting.
After the speeches and discussions, the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Rectors Council of the Belgorod Region and the Association of Arab Universities was signed. President of the flagship university, chairman of the Rectors Union of the region, professor Anatoly Gridchin and the Secretary - General of the association professor Sultan T. Abu-Arabi signed the document.
In a solemn atmosphere the title «Honorary Professor of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov» was awarded to the Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities.
On the same day, the delegation of the Association of Arab Universities got acquainted with the university's infrastructure. The guests visited the museum-exhibition complex, high-tech center laboratories, sports facilities. Together with the rector of the university they planted a tree on the Friendship Alley.
