Mountaineering is the school of courage
The meeting of the university climber club «Vershina», dedicated to the 45th anniversary of its establishment, was held at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov.
Club «Vershina» was established in «Technolog» in April 1973. The first sporting expedition to the Central Caucasus, was organized by a group of tourists from the Technological university. «This large-scale event is considered to be the starting point of activity of our climbers’ club» - said the president of the Belgorod Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing, a graduate of the University Sergey Shevchenko.
The vice-rector for cultural, educational and social work, Professor Irina Avilova addressed the participants and guests of the event on behalf of the university administration with a welcome speech.
At the beginning of the meeting, the audience remembered the deceased climbers, honoring their memory with a minute of silence. Guests shared their spiritual stories, plans for the upcoming tourist season. And also invited everyone to take part in hiking.
The first head of the club, the lecturer of the department of building materials and structures Alexander Galeta, the first instructor of mountaineering, now the assistant professor of the department of mechanical equipment of the University Alexander Obod, the head of the tourist club «Edelweiss» Vasily Eliseev and Alexander Ilyin, the head of the tourist club «Condor», attending the anniversary event.
