Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov increased positions in the international ranking of Webometrics
The flagship university of Belgorod region, thanks to the work that was done to increase the number of registered scientists’ profiles on the Google Scholar platform has doubled its position in the international and Russian ranking «Webometrics Ranking World University».
University international rating of Webometrics assesses the presence of universities in the global Internet space. The rating results are published since 2004 twice a year (in January and July).
Webometrics is one of the most global rankings in terms of spatial coverage. Initially, the rating was considered 19 000 universities. For the first time 25 000 universities were analyzed, in 2016 - more than 24 000, and in January 2017 - more than 25 000 universities. The rating is always submitted to 12 000 universities.
When compiling the rating, four indicators are taken into account:
Visibility (50%) - counting all the external links that the university web domain receives from third parties. Those links are recognizing the institutional prestige, the academic performance, the value of the information, and the usefulness of the services.
Presence (5%) - The total number of webpages hosted in the main web domain, (including all the subdomains and directories) of the university as indexed by the largest commercial search engine.
Openness (10%) - The global effort to set up institutional research repositories is explicitly recognized in this indicator that takes into account the number of rich files (pdf, doc, docx, ppt) published in dedicated websites according to the academic search engine.
Excellence (35%) - Number of papers amongst the top 10% most cited in 26 disciplines for the five year period. The data provider is Scimago group.
