The Volunteer Project of BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov became the Discovery of the Year
On January 30, the participants awarding of the III Regional competition for the best social group work of student self-administration following the results of the last academic year took place at the Center of Youth Initiatives in Belgorod.
The contest was organized by the Youth Policy Department of the Belgorod Region.
The BSTU students project in the field of ecology and sustainable development within the framework of the festival "VuzEcoFest-2017" claimed first place in the nomination "Discovery of the Year". The university ecology and voluntary leader of “EcoDobroBSTU” Maxim Iuruts took the prize.
The festival "VuzEcoFest" was a significant event. 17 major events were held over the fortnight: ecology and nature conservation lectures, round table discussions in Russian and foreign languages, laying an oak alley at the university campus, visiting the «Belogorye» reserve, an ecological bike ride, the "Paper Boom" campaign, where 1,400 kg of waste paper was collected, the installation of garbage bins for separate waste collection, and a campaign for recyclable materials collection in the university dormitories.
«As volunteers, we feel support from the state, including the legislative level, and this is very important for us. Now we do not need to explain to people that we are doing all this voluntary» - Maxim Iuruts said.
Recently, the State Duma passed a law on volunteers, which finally equalized the concepts of "dobrovoletc" and "volunteer" and brought the legislative base to the activities of such associations.
In the plans of BSTU environmental volunteers - to join forces with other educational institutions in Belgorod, in order to make the city cleaner.
Now, volunteers are preparing "VuzEcoFest-2018" event, which will be brought to the city level.
The students joint board of the core university was also noted for the best organization of student bodies with certificate of acknowledgement for the active work in the academic year 2016/2017 at the awards ceremony.
