Getting to understand Russia
The summer students program «Study+Leisure» at Belgrord Shukhov state technological university is coming to an end. Within several weeks our guests were studying Russian at the preparatory faculty for foreign students. Apart from auditorium classes they got acquainted with the places of interest in Belgorod and the region. The purpose of the program prepared by the organizers was to give a complete idea concerning the past and present of Belgorodia.
It seems that the most significant tour was the one to the “Third Glorious Battlefield of Russia”. Young gentlemen and ladies form different states listened to the stories told by the tour guide, got familiarized with the exponents, dedicated to the events of World War II, heroic resistance, which allowed to frustrate the enemy’s plans.
In the Museum of Folk culture the summer school participants learned how representatives of different classes used to live in Belgorod region. With great interest the young people looked the expositions dedicated to history, archeology, ethnography and crafts. They were not limited by being just passive listeners — with the help of the employees of the museum they made handmade dolls in a way it used to be in Russia. Leaving the museum the foreign citizens expressed the opinion that everything they had seen allowed to have another view on the history of Russia and Belgorodia and to understand many things.
