Success in the most complicated subject

 

Each student at BSTU is well aware that knowledge of the methods of disciplines "Descriptive Geometry" and "Engineering Graphics" is necessary for those who are going to develop a complex technique, processes, specialized information systems - for masters and PhD students. The practical application of this discipline can be associated with any technical specialty that is in any way related to the drawings or directly with drawing, such as architecture, engineering. Descriptive geometry develops spatial concepts, the ability to think abstractly - qualities that are essential for the engineering practice, for various applications.
Experienced designers point out that the methods of descriptive geometry allow to solve problems in layout, the design of all kinds of devices, analysis of structures, conveyors and conveyor systems. In space, a unique gear, calculated using the methods of descriptive geometry, is successfully functioning.

That is why, examinations and tests in these subjects create the strongest emotions: joy for highly valued hard work, or, on the contrary, grief, necessarily followed by an incentive to improve, the desire to overcome the difficulties. Descriptive geometry is the most serious test for all first and second year students. This subject is considered to be elite because of the high requirements both to the intellect, and student’s ability to work. For foreign students, who had just mastered the basics of the Russian language, it is twice complicated.

Complex and responsible work is being done by the department of descriptive geometry and engineering graphics at BSTU named after V.G. Shukhov. The faculty staff give students the most important qualities of an engineer.

In January, the Department of descriptive geometry held the Olympics in descriptive geometry. We are pleased to note that among the 1st- year students a citizen of Yemen, Qassim Mohammed was ranked the first. O.Y. Borovskaya is a faculty member, who conducts classes and prepared a student for the contest. Another foreign student Gabriel Fransen, who participated in the competition and was not yet included into the number of winners, also made a very good impression.

 

 



Center for International Education and Cooperation extends gratitude to the staff of descriptive geometry and engineering graphics department for their hard work in training and education of foreign students and contribution to the international engineering education. At present, the foreign graduates are working at construction sites of their home countries, many of them are already in managerial positions. Without exception all our alumni started their engineering education  with challenging and rewarding school given by department of descriptive geometry.
