Faculty of technological equipment and complexes
In summer 2010 the Institute of technological equipment and complexes (FTEC) celebrated its 40 the anniversary. 40 years ago it was established as a faculty of mechanical equipment for enterprises of construction materials industry with the department of the same name.
Today the following four departments are included into the institute: «mechanical equipment», «Technological complexes, machines and mechanisms», «Descriptive geomentry and graphics» и «Department of physical education and sport», the first two of them providing the final qualification level. The number of students have increased up to 800 people. The teaching and research process is conducted by highly qualified staff consisting of 125 members, including 10 Doctors of Science and professors, 89 candidates of science (PhD) and assistant professors.
According to FTEC Dean, Vasily Stepanovich Bogdanov, doctor of technical sciences, in the 90 s the applicants to the university lost interest to a profession of a mechanical engineer. Then we made use of the experience of Kharkov Aviation Institute, who by that time had developed a program of training design engineers, using computer aided automated design system. The University management supported the idea to open a new specialization filed, which later attracted the applicants’ attention and the problem of students recruitment was solved.
Six years ago the faculty of mechanical equipment for enterprises of construction materials industry got a status of an institute of technological equipment and complexes (FTEC). Today the university division can boast itself of the following: for the recent five years, owing to the efforts made by professor M. Y. Eltsov, who initiated a group of adherents, the university graduates, the students specializing in CAD have become award winners at international contests, have awards from the Russian Academy of Construction science and President’s grants. Nowadays, the material and technical facilities have been upgraded: the division has five specialized computer halls with over 80 computers available.
Since 2007, the specialists of the mechanical equipment department deployed PLM system Teamcenter - 23 specialized high-performance computer workstations to allow the future specialists training.
Today the Faculty is actively cooperating on training with such leading manufacturers of cement equipment, automation and process control, as: «KYD Humboldt Wedag GmbH», «Krupp-Polisius», «Gerb. Pferiffer AG »,« Fritz & Maczol »,« Mollers GmbH »,« HeidelbergCement RUS »,« Holcim AG »,« Pfiser »,« Siemens » and others. Having acquainted with the level of training of mechanical engineers, and our material resources, the companies « HeidelbergCement RUS » , «Holcim AG», «KYD Humboldt Wedag GmbH», «Lafarg» signed agreements and contracts sending our graduates to work at their cement factories. .
Currently, the institute, with the active support from the rector of Belgorod State Shukhov Technological University, Doctor of science, Professor S.N Glagolev, the work towards the application of innovative technologies in the learning process is going on, introducing new electronic books and slide lectures for full time students and distance learners. In order to enhance the design work on improving the equipment for building materials production it is expected to establish an engineering design team, with the participation of the department graduates.
For the recent years, the FTEC professors’ staff edited four textbooks approved by central methodological authority. According to professor V.S Bogdanov the department of "Mechanical equipment" established an educational and methodological center on the use of advanced software developments in Russian universities. For the last four years, experience in this area has been accumulated and, due to this, the students of the institute become the first prize winners in Russian and international competitions. The "Prize" was free installation of software from the «Siemens» company which costs four million dollars.
In addition to the studies, the FTEC students are actively engaged in sports, take part in amateur performances, various cultural and educational events, join the summer student construction teams.
At first glance 40 years represent a figure, which cannot be considered highly representative for an educational institution, however during these years the institute has acquired good reputation and came to its anniversary with high degree of dignity . Currently FTEC meets all the requirements of today, has a large creative and professional potential, as well as good basis for future success and fruitful endeavor. With pride we can say that FTEC is a well-recognized name, status and prestige. This means a high-quality education with carefully formed curriculum and outstanding research facilities, meeting the best Russian and international quality standards.
