The Art that joins nations

The Turkish students, who have spent 2 months at Belgorod state technological university, continue their acquaintance with local history and culture. They have been in the craftsmanship centre in the village of Kupino in Shebekino district, Belgorod Art museum. In the town of Graivoron they visited a private zoo. They saw exotic birds and were allowed to feed them.

On August 13, the group went on an excursion to a studio museum of Stanislav Kosenkov, an Honoured Artist of Russia to see his graphic works, which are included in the golden fund of Russian paintings of the 20th century. Anna Kosenkova, the artist’s widow, acquainted the students with S. Kosenkov’s creative works. The Turkish representatives saw series of graphic pictures “Prokhorovka Field” and “Memory” in commemoration of World War II. The head of the museum told that her husband presented the war without battle scenes, however the pictures do not become less dramatic. The illustrations to “Crime and Punishment” by F. Dostoevsky were of great interest, as they are astonishing by their depth and skill.

After expressing their thanks for hospitality, the students confessed that the visit to Kosenkov’s studio and the Art Museum produced a deep impression on them. The local fine arts and communication with people help them to better understand the Russian mentality and have more respect to the people, whose language they came to study.
