Meeting of Colombian representatives with Y.V. Kovrizhnykh
After visiting the Diorama museum commemorating the Battle of Kursk the representatives of the Embassy of Colombia had a meeting at the local government office. They were received by Y.V. Kovrizhnykh, deputy-Chairman of local Government, head of the department for education, culture and Youth affairs at Belgorod oblast Government. Yuri Vasilievich gave an outline of local economy and telling about Belgorod State Shukhov Technological University stated its leading position among Russian technical universities: «The technological university has significant experience in training highly qualified specialists for foreign states. The language of tuition is not limited to Russian, the courses are conducted also in English, which facilitates the training process for overseas students».
In response, the ambassador of the Republic of Colombia, H.E. Diego Jose Tobon Echeverri expressed his gratitude to the local government for the cordial welcome and BSTU management for the invitation. He stressed that his visit is taking place on the eve of 75 the anniversary since the start of friendly relationship between Colombia and Russia. Since then Russian higher educational institutions has trained a great number of highly qualified specialists. At present as much as 150 are studying in Russia, 34 of them - in Belgorod. According to H.E. Diego Jose Tobon Echeverri the current efforts in training the future technical specialists represent «the most urgent matter for Colombian economy».
The representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia, speaking on behalf the Ministry of Education invited BSTU management to participate in the workshop scheduled for the late June in Moscow. It is going to be the first time when the Minister of Education of Colombia will take part in the workshop, representing all the 8 universities of our friendly country.
At the end of the meeting the parties exchanged souvenirs and expressed the hope for both academic and economic cooperation.
