In the Height of Labor Summer

Today the members of student construction teams of Belgorod Oblast are involved in the construction of Olympic sport facilities in Sochi, cast houses in Novgorod, improvement of their native town.

As it was in the past years foreign students decoded to make their contribution into the joint activity. Taking part in “Belogorie” students’ team they take part in upgrading of the areas located near construction sites of the new halls of residence and the swimming pool in the campus area. According to Alexander Kachaev, the head of BSTU students construction teams, over 30 students are currently working with “Belogorie”, the international students’ crew, consisting of students from Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Dunat Okaili, who came from Nigeria to study in Russia, shared his impression of the work in the students’ construction team:

«Every morning me and my group mates go to work. The working day starts at 8 o’clock sharp. At first, during the meeting, the foreman, responsible for the construction process, gives out the assignments and distributes the orders among the workers. The newcomers work as hodmen, assisting the builders: they prepare concrete mix, load the sand. The more experienced ones are involved in laying pavement edges».

In general, the working day of the students’ construction crew worker has no difference with the schedule of a regular builder. The work in the construction site is carried out according to the general schedule with an hour’s lunch break at midday. During the lunch break the students manage not only to have lunch and relax, but also to share impressions with the Russian colleagues of the joint work done and the amount to be carried out.

The working day lasts till 5 o’clock in the evening. As a rule, the foreman summarizes the results of work done during the day, announces people who have done a good job and the names of those who need to work faster. Among the most active members are students from Cambodia – Ek Chanthorn, Кео Un, Коng Seila, Phai Phearak, Sron Dina. By now the international students manages to remove as many as 30 cubic meters of soil, clean almost 200 square meters of tiles.

In the future the greater part of international students are planning to become architects and construction engineers, so they are very careful to any comment of experienced builders.

Assembling the comfortable walls of their future home – the students dormitory, taking part in the construction of the swimming pool and other sites in the campus area, each of the members of students’ construction team makes a valuable contribution in the joint movement of students construction teams.
